The dongle controls the battery with Growatt's VPP protocol.

Charge, hold and sell

A command with the battery's power and a duration. The dongle removes it itself when the block ends, and after a restart.

What it requires

VPP V2.01 in the inverter's firmware. Without it, GridZeno can only read the inverter and limit the sale.

Stop selling at negative prices

The inverter's export limit is set quarter by quarter by the selling price, but only where the installer has turned export limiting on. GridZeno only lowers a limit that's already set and never turns it on or off.

Another controller

If another system already has a VPP command on the inverter, the dongle leaves it alone and doesn't control the inverter.

Manual

When the control is on Manual, the dongle changes nothing on the inverter. It reads, and if GridZeno has changed something, it puts the inverter's own settings back, including your own charge limits.

The type code 5100, when only the VPP ranges answer (the charge level in 31217), not the range from 3000 or 0-124.

What it requires

VPP V2.01 in the inverter's firmware (holding 30099 = 201).

State of charge limits

30404 takes only 70-100 % and 30405 only 10-30 %. Your limits are fitted into those ranges, for example 40/60 as 30/70, and the log says so. The plan itself holds the battery at your lowest charge level.

The grid

Read in the meter, 31112. Register 31100 is the inverter's own power. Until 31112 has shown something other than 0, the XH2 reports no grid.

What the dongle allows for

• The battery's temperature isn't reported, because 31223 reads 0 on the XH2 units that have been seen.
• The export limit is only 30201, because the XH2 doesn't have the range 0-124 with 122 and 123.

How it differs from its neighbours

• Growatt MIN TL-XH2 (RJ45): The same inverter with six RJ45 ports. The dongle controls it the same way; the difference is the port: SYN with pins 3 and 6.
• Growatt MIN: The MIN TL-XH has the same type code, but is controlled with its time segments and doesn't need VPP V2.01.

For the installer: the registers

What the dongle uses over Modbus, if you want to follow along or troubleshoot. Don't change the registers yourself while control is set to Automatic.

Control

The VPP command in 30407-30410: 30408 is the duration, 30409 the power in per cent, 30410 = 1 when charging. 30100 = 1 turns it on. The dongle writes in the order 30408, 30409, 30410, 30100, 30407 and removes it with 30407 = 0, 30409 = 0, 30410 back and 30100 = 0.

Protocol

Holding 30099 shows the VPP version: 201 is V2.01.

State of charge limits

30404 (highest, 70-100) and 30405 (lowest, 10-30).

Export limit

30201 in whole per cent, when the installer has set 30200 = 1.

Where

The round 16-pin connector on the underside between USB and AC. The same connector is used for the battery, energy meter, backup box and current clamp, so there may already be wires in it. The connector marked COM is for DRM and must not be used.
