From inverter to overview
The dongle sits in the inverter's communication port and reads the measurements via Modbus every 5 seconds. Every 15 seconds it sends the latest measurements to GridZeno. The app shows them and makes a plan for each quarter hour, and the dongle fetches the plan and carries it out locally. Which measurements and control options are available depends on the inverter model and firmware.
The graphs and example values shown on the website are demonstrations. They do not read information from your system.
What information is included?
- Measurements
- Solar production, inverter data such as strings, temperature and voltage, household consumption, power bought and sold, the battery's state of charge and power, which the dongle reads from the inverter.
- The system's own information
- Battery size, rated power and sale limit, which the dongle reads from the inverter when it starts, as well as connection status and errors.
- What you enter yourself
- The system's location and panels, price area, grid company and electricity contract, home equipment, your choices for the control and your own rules.
- Home Assistant
- Only if you connect it: its name, whether it may only read or also control, its address on your network, the code you approved it with, and when the dongle last saw it. Home Assistant fetches the measurements directly from the dongle, not from us.
- Your electric car
- Only if you connect it: the battery's state of charge, whether it is plugged in and charging, charging power, range and charge limit, which the car itself has reported to its manufacturer, and the target, the departure times and the charge box you enter yourself. Never where the car is.
- The plan
- The plan for each quarter hour and the reasoning behind each decision.
- Account information
- Name, e-mail and username, and when you buy, also address, mobile number and orders. Read more on the privacy page.
Measurements linked to a person or household can be personal data, and we treat them as such.
How long do we keep them?
- The dongle's individual measurements
- 6 hours. They are only used to calculate the quarter-hour values.
- Quarter-hour values
- 2 years. They are what the graphs, reports and forecasts are based on.
- Production per string
- Only while the panel check is collecting, as quarter-hour values. A day without enough sun is deleted once it has been settled, normally after 3 days and at the latest after 60. When the check is finished, the per-string measurements are deleted; we keep the result for as long as the system is here.
- Reasons for the plan's choices
- 90 days.
- Diagnostics on a support case
- Only if you send it with a case. It is deleted when the case is resolved.
- Connections to Home Assistant
- As long as they have access. If you remove one, if Home Assistant removes itself, or if the dongle gets a new owner, it is deleted immediately.
- Your electric car's reports
- 2 years. If you remove the car, they are deleted immediately, together with your login to the car's app.
- The history of your dongle
- 1 year. For example when it starts, a pairing that did not succeed, with the number that was entered, and when it could not read the inverter. We use it to help you if the setup is giving you trouble.
- Your account and your settings
- Until you delete the account.
- Orders and invoices
- 5 years from the end of the financial year, also if you delete the account. The Bookkeeping Act requires this.
In the forecast service
- Copy of your measurements
- 2 years, like the quarter-hour values.
- Production per string
- The forecast service calculates the panel check automatically for the first 90 days and after that only when you change the setup. It does not store the measurements.
- Forecasts, weather data and prices for your system
- 2 years. A forecast is counted from the day it was made. We use them to measure how accurate the forecasts are, and to adapt them to your system.
- Training data
- Only if you share your data for the models. They are deleted when you switch it off or delete the account. A fully trained model does not contain your measurements.
Everything the forecast service has about your system is deleted when you delete your account.
Who gets information from your system?
To make forecasts and calculate your system, we send a small amount of information to public services. Your name, your e-mail and your measurements are not included.
- Weather services: the system's coordinates are sent to public weather services, for example Yr and DMI, to fetch the weather forecast for your exact location.
- PVGIS (the European Commission's Joint Research Centre): coordinates and the panels' tilt, orientation and size, to calculate the system's expected production.
- Danmarks Adresser (Dataforsyningen): the address you search for when you specify the system's location.
- The car's brand: if you connect your electric car, we log in to the brand's service with your login to fetch the car's status, for example Kia Connect, Volkswagen, Škoda, Renault, NissanConnect Services, Toyota, MG, Polestar, smart, BYD or BMW CarData. The brand gets the same as when you use the brand's app.
- Push notifications: if you turn on push, the messages go through your browser's own push service, and in the Android app through Google Firebase. They only get the address the message is for and the message itself.
You can read about payment, delivery and invoices when you buy on the privacy page.
How access to your system is secured
- Your dongle creates its own secret key the first time it starts. Our server only stores a one-way hash of it, which cannot be calculated back to the key. Your GridZeno password never has to be entered on the dongle: you pair it from your own account.
- Each system belongs to one customer account. Other customers' systems and data are not accessible to you, and yours are not accessible to them.
- The forecasts are calculated by a separate forecast service, which only delivers calculations and cannot itself send commands to your inverter.
- The dongle fetches its plan itself and carries it out locally. The plan is signed so the dongle can see that it comes from us, and the same applies to updates of the dongle's software. GridZeno never sends a write command to your inverter, and if your control is set to manual, the dongle only carries out what is requested by a Home Assistant that you yourself have allowed to control.
- A Home Assistant can only talk to the dongle once you have approved it with the 6-digit code. Every request is signed with a key that the dongle and Home Assistant have created together, and which is never sent over the internet. Our server does not know the key and can therefore neither read from the dongle nor control it on your network.
- The connections between the app, the dongle and our server are encrypted.
- Passwords are only stored as one-way hashes, and the database cannot be reached from the internet.
Your choice: use of your data to improve the models
Your measurement data can be used to make GridZeno's forecasts better for all customers. On new accounts this is switched on from the start, and you can switch it off at any time in the web app under Profile, Privacy and data. It is not a condition for using GridZeno. If you switch it off, your system works exactly as before.
- If data is shared, it is the system's technical setup and measurements (production, consumption, weather data) that go into the training dataset, not your name, your e-mail or your login details, which are kept in a completely separate part of the system.
- If you switch it off again, the data already shared for the purpose is deleted from the training dataset, not just marked as inactive.
How to delete your data
You can delete your account and all your data yourself in the app. The account and all your system data are then deleted, also in the forecast service. They are deleted, not just deactivated. However, we keep orders and invoices for 5 years, as the Bookkeeping Act requires.
If you only want your data out of the model training, you can switch it off yourself in the web app under Profile, Privacy and data. The data already shared is then deleted, while your account and your system continue as before.
If you would like confirmation that everything has been deleted, or want your data handed over, write to kontakt@gridzeno.dk. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.
Your rights
Your measurement data belongs to your home and is therefore personal data. You have these rights:
- Access
- Find out what information we have about you and your system, and get a copy of it.
- Portability and sharing
- Have your measurements and information handed over free of charge in a common, machine-readable format, or ask us to send them directly to someone else, for example your installer or another energy service. You can download the measurements and the system's information yourself in the web app under Profile, Download your data.
- Rectification
- Have incorrect information corrected. You correct your name, username, e-mail and password yourself in the web app under Profile, and your system under Settings. If the panel check has corrected the panels' orientation or tilt, you can undo it under System.
- Erasure
- Delete your account and your data, as described above.
- Restriction and objection
- Ask us to restrict or stop processing, for example the use of your data to improve the models.
Write to kontakt@gridzeno.dk. We reply within one month at the latest, as the data protection rules require, and we may ask you to confirm your identity first.
If you are unhappy with how we process your information, you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet). Questions about access to data from connected products under the EU Data Act fall under the Danish Agency for Digital Government (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen).
