The prices quarter hour by quarter hour
Fetching the prices … Today's cheapest hours and the price right now are in the answer lines at the top of the page, and the hourly prices in the table below them.
What is the difference between the spot price and the full price?
The spot price is only part of what you pay for a kWh.
The spot price is the price on the power exchange, and the full price is what a kWh costs once the rest is added on top: your grid company's grid tariff, Energinet's tariffs, the electricity tax and VAT. The spot price is set the day before for each quarter hour of the next day, and it is the same for everyone in a price area.
What the full price on this page includes is written under the chart. Most electricity suppliers add their own mark-up on top.
- Spot price
- The power exchange's price. Changes every quarter hour.
- Grid tariff
- Your grid company's price for bringing the power to you. Changes with the time of day and the season.
- Energinet's tariffs and the electricity tax
- The same for everyone in Denmark and the same all day.
- VAT
- On all of it, the spot price too.

What is the difference between DK1 and DK2?
Denmark is split into two price areas.
DK1 is Jutland and Funen, west of the Great Belt. DK2 is Zealand, Lolland-Falster and Bornholm, east of the Great Belt. The prices are often the same, but not always: when the connections between the areas and to the neighbouring countries cannot move all the power that is needed, each area gets its own price.
You belong to the area your electricity meter is in, wherever your electricity supplier is based.
When do tomorrow's prices come?
At around 1 pm, every day.
The power exchange sets the prices for the next day around midday, and they come on the page shortly after. Until then you can only see today's prices. Tomorrow's can differ a lot from today's: a windy night can make power almost free, a still evening the opposite.
When is power cheapest?
The page highlights the 3 hours with the lowest average full price.
Often at night: the grid tariff is usually lowest then, so the full price can be lowest at night even when the spot price is lower in the middle of the day. It changes from day to day, and the hours do not have to be in a row.
Those are the hours when it is cheapest to run the dishwasher, wash clothes or charge the electric car.
When the spot price is below zero in a quarter hour, there is a negative price. Then selling power costs money. Read what you can do about negative electricity prices.
Let your system use the cheap hours
With solar panels and a battery you can charge when power is cheap and use it when it is dear.
Every day GridZeno makes a plan for your system from the same prices, your solar forecast and your consumption, and the dongle carries it out on your inverter. You can read the plan: you see what the battery does in each quarter hour, and why. With Smart and Pro, selling stops when the selling price is below zero, and starts again when it pays.
Work out what it can mean for your system. See the dongle that connects the system.
