We built it,
because it didn't work.
GridZeno didn't start as a good idea on a whiteboard. It started because a solution we used ourselves turned out to lie. Today our own dongle controls the system directly, and every decision can be read.
The cloud said yes.
The inverter did nothing.
How GridZeno went from a layer on top of a manufacturer's cloud to its own hardware.
- First
It started in the cloud
GridZeno began as a layer on top of an inverter manufacturer's own cloud API. You sent a command, got "success" back, and everything looked right on the screen.
- Then
The inverter did nothing
Out in the utility room, nothing happened. The commands never reached the hardware. The reply said "success", but nothing had happened, and the control believed it was controlling the system.
- That's why
We built our own
Instead of asking a cloud for permission, we built a small device that sits in the inverter and talks directly to it over Modbus. The whole cloud layer has been deleted from the codebase.
- Tested
First on our own house
New control runs for days on end on our own system, and we measure what the battery and the grid actually do before it comes anywhere near yours.
- Today
GridZeno in operation
The dongle controls the system locally, and you follow along in the app for iPhone and Android or in the browser. And we keep building.
Six principles
you can hold us to.
They're here so you can use them against us if we break them.
We claim nothing we haven't measured
We would rather write "we don't know yet" than round up. An inverter only goes on the list once it has run on a real system.
Our own system is the guinea pig
New control runs on our own house before it comes anywhere near yours. You choose in Welcome whether GridZeno controls your system straight away, and you can switch to Manual at any time.
We don't promise an amount
What you can save depends on your system, your consumption and your electricity agreement. We explain the calculation and show you the actual value afterwards. We don't put a number on it in advance to sell.
You should be able to read the reason
The automatic control makes a plan you can read, with a reason for every quarter hour. If you can't see why the system did something to your system, we have built it wrong.
The control sits with you
The dongle carries out the plan locally. If it loses the internet, it follows the plan it has, or lets the inverter run on its own, as you have chosen under Automatic, and your battery limits are in the inverter itself.
Your data is yours
You can have your data handed over to you and delete it. We only use it to improve the forecasts if you say yes to that.

Honest about
what you get.
Forecasts, prices, graphs, notifications and reports run on real systems, not in a demo. We don't promise a specific amount, because your gain depends on your system, your consumption and your electricity agreement.
That's why we sell the dongle with 100 days of free returns. You don't have to believe a spreadsheet: plug it in, watch your own numbers through a whole season, and send it back at our expense if it isn't worth the money.
Stefan Jørgensen
The articles under Knowledge are written by Stefan Jørgensen, energy manager and installer at Kan-El. They build on what GridZeno does and on what we have measured on our own system.
We aren't building
GridZeno alone.
Installers who want to offer GridZeno, and customers with good ideas, can help shape what we build.
Ready for cheaper
power?
Check whether your inverter fits, and let the plan charge the battery and sell power in the right quarter hours.
