100 days Free returns on the GridZeno Dongle. Try it on your own system. If it doesn't fit, we take it back and pay the shipping.
From order to operation

The whole journey, step by step.

From when you check your system until automatic control is running. With the times we actually expect, and the places where it typically goes wrong.

The whole journey is without risk
You have 100 days of free returns on the dongle, counted from the day you activate the dongle. If it doesn't fit your system, or you can't see a gain once your own numbers have come in, you send it back, and we pay the shipping.
  1. 01
    Before you order

Find out whether your system fits

    Takes 5 minutes

The most important step is the first. Check that your inverter is listed as supported on the compatibility page.

The model designation is on the label on the outside of the inverter and in its own display or app. You don't need to open the casing.

Watch out: If your model isn't on the list, or you're unsure, write to usbefore you order. We would rather say no in advance than accept a return afterwards.

  2. 02
    Ordering

    Choose dongle and subscription

    Same day

You order the dongle for DKK 549 and choose the subscription you want to start on. If you have a battery, Pro is typically the one that really does the most. If you don't, Smart covers what you'll benefit from. You can change subscription at any time afterwards, so the choice isn't a decision for ever.

You also choose a username. Your account is created when the payment has gone through, and you get an order confirmation by mail.

When you order, the amount for the dongle and shipping is reserved on your card, and it's charged when we send the parcel. The subscription only starts on the day your dongle is connected to your system, and that's also when the first month is charged. It has a minimum term of one month and can then be cancelled at any time.

  3. 03
    Delivery

    We pack and send

    2-7 working days

The dongle is sent with PostNord to a a parcel shop or parcel locker for DKK 49 or to your door for DKK 79. Shipping is paid once per order, however many dongles there are in the order. PostNord lets you know when the parcel is on its way, and when it has been delivered or is ready for collection.

The parcel contains the dongle and the accessories you have chosen. A power supply and cables are only included if you have bought them as extras. The dongle's number is on the label on the dongle. You need it when you log in for the first time.

  4. 04
    Mounting

Plug the dongle into the inverter's RS485 port

    15-30 minutes

The dongle plugs into the inverter's communication port. It's a data port, not a power connection. You don't have to work with 230 V or touch the fixed installation. How long it takes depends on the model. Some inverters have to be opened by an electrician, and the guide for your model.

The dongle needs power from a USB charger and a socket nearby. It doesn't get power from the inverter. Then you connect it to your network with your phone, wirelessly or with a network cable. You choose your inverter model in GridZeno when you log in for the first time. See the installation step by step.

Watch out: If anything at all has to be done to the fixed electrical installation, it must be carried out by an authorised electrician. Always follow the inverter's own safety instructions. They take precedence over ours.

  5. 05
    Pairing

Log in, and link the dongle to your account

    Under a minute

As soon as the dongle has a connection, it registers itself with GridZeno. The first time, you log in with your username and the dongle's number as the password, and then you choose your own password. After that, you link the dongle to your account with its ID, in the app or in the browser. When it's linked, your subscription starts.

Note what does not happen: you never have to type your password into the dongle. You link it from the app or the browser, where you're already logged in, so your login details never come near the hardware.

  6. 06
    Setup

    Tell us about your system

    5-10 minutes

The setup guide asks about what GridZeno can't read from the inverter itself: where the system is, which way the panels face, which grid company and which electricity agreement you have, and whether you have an electric car or a heat pump.

The battery's capacity, the inverter's rated power and the number of solar strings are read directly from the system. You don't need to look them up.

Watch out: If you have panels on several roof surfaces, fill them in separately. An east/west system set up as one average gets a forecast that predicts one sharp midday peak instead of the broad double curve the system actually delivers.

  7. 07
    First data

The system starts to show itself

    Within a few minutes

The measurements start coming in straight away, and the dashboard shows production, consumption and battery as it happens. Under System you can see what the dongle has read from the inverter and the battery, and whether the inverter reports a fault.

The graphs start on the day the dongle is plugged in. The dongle can't fetch measurements from before then.

  8. 08
    Calibration

The forecast gets to know your system

    The first 14 days

The physics model knows where the sun is, but not that a tree is in the way, or that the roof is shaded by the chimney early in the day. For the first two weeks, GridZeno continuously compares its own prediction with your actual production and adjusts accordingly.

The forecast is usable from day one. It gets noticeably better once it has seen your system for a couple of weeks.

  9. 09
    Operation

    Choose whether GridZeno controls

    When you say so

In Welcome you choose whether GridZeno should control your system straight away or show you the plans first. If you want to see them first, the control is set to Manual: GridZeno calculates and shows the whole plan (what it would do hour by hour, and why), but the dongle changes nothing on your inverter.

Then you can read through the plan for a few days and switch to Automatic, when you can see that it does what you would have done yourself. You can switch to Manual at any time.

Watch out: Set your limits for the state of charge before you turn on automatic control. They're written into the inverter's own settings and therefore hold, even if the dongle loses power or connection, as long as the control is on Automatic. On Manual, the inverter gets its own limits back.

In short

How long does what take?

From ordering until the parcel is with you
2-7 working days
From opening the parcel until the system is on the screen
Typically under half an hour
Before the graphs show your system
Straight away, from the day the dongle is plugged in
Before the forecast is calibrated to your system
14-30 days
Before automatic control controls anything
Only when you turn it on yourself
If something is playing up

We keep
an eye on that.

The dongle can't be found when I link it

It's almost always the wifi. Check that the dongle is on a network it can reach the internet from, that you're using the right password, and that the ID is typed correctly. If you still can't link it, write to us. We can see from our side whether it has ever registered.

The dashboard shows production, but no consumption

Then the inverter typically lacks a smart meter, or it isn't enabled in the inverter's settings. Your installer can help set it up. Contact support for help.

The forecast is way off the first few days

That's to be expected until the calibration has had a couple of weeks. If it keeps missing after that, the panel setup is the first suspect, especially tilt, orientation and the split between strings.

Automatic control doesn't do what I expected

Open the plan and read the reason for the quarter hour in question. Each step says why it chose as it did. If it's one of your own rules getting in the way, it says so there too.

I want my data deleted

You can delete your account yourself in the app under Settings or in the web app under Profile, including what has been shared for model training. It's deleted, not just deactivated, and you get a confirmation by mail. See what we keep afterwards.
