Deye via Solarman with GridZeno.
A hybrid is controlled like a single-phase Deye with the inverter's time-of-use program, through the Solarman logger. GridZeno can only read a SUN-G grid inverter. Applies to SUN-G (grid-tied inverters) and Deye hybrid without a Modbus port.
What GridZeno can do on Deye via Solarman

- Live overview of solar, consumption and gridAll subscriptions · On a SUN-G, grid and consumption require an energy meter on the inverter.Works
- Battery state of chargeAll subscriptions · requires a battery · Not on a SUN-G, which has no battery.Works
- Stop selling at negative pricesSmart and Pro · Not on a SUN-G. Requires the installer to have turned export limiting on in the inverter. GridZeno only lowers a limit that's already set.Works
- Charge from the grid when power is cheapSmart and Pro · requires a battery · Not on a SUN-G. Requires a lithium battery with a BMS, which the inverter controls by state of charge.Works
- Discharge the battery when power is expensivePro · requires a battery · Not on a SUN-G. With zero export turned on, a hybrid doesn't sell from the battery.Works

How the inverter is controlled
The dongle talks to the inverter through Deye's Solarman logger over your network.
- Hybrid
- The inverter's time-of-use program. The dongle saves your own program and charge current and puts them back afterwards. Requires a lithium battery with a BMS.
- Sell from the battery
- Through the inverter's maximum sell power. With the time-of-use program and zero export turned on, the inverter only uses the battery for the house.
- SUN-G
- A grid inverter without a battery. GridZeno reads it but can't lower its export limit.
- Stop selling at negative prices
- The inverter's export limit is set quarter by quarter by the selling price, but only where the installer has turned export limiting on. GridZeno only lowers a limit that's already set and never turns it on or off.
- Manual
- When the control is on Manual, the dongle changes nothing on the inverter. It reads, and if GridZeno has changed something, it puts the inverter's own settings back, including your own charge limits.
What is special about the Deye via Solarman
The dongle talks to the inverter through the Solarman logger on port 8899 and knows it by holding 0: 0x0200 is a SUN-G grid inverter. A hybrid behind the logger is recognised as its own family.
- The logger
- The logger's serial number must be entered in GridZeno. Without it the dongle sends nothing. The answer comes wrapped in Solarman's V5 frame.
- The meter on a SUN-G
- Read in 198-210 when holding 48 isn't 0 and the warning W04 (the meter's communication) isn't set. Plus is a sale, the opposite of the hybrids.
- The limiter on a SUN-G
- If it's on, a limit of 0 is shown. It's never written.
What the dongle allows for
- Some loggers add extra CRC bytes to the answer, for example on a SUN-9K-G03 with logger firmware LSW3_15_FFFF_1.0.9E. The dongle cuts them off.
- A lost answer closes the connection. A read is tried once more on a new connection; a write never is.
- Remote control through the logger is marked in the log as not tested on hardware.
How it differs from its neighbours
- Deye SUN-M via Solarman: The SUN-M microinverter also goes through the logger, but the dongle reads no meter on it.
- Deye hybrid, single-phase (LP1): With an RS485 cable straight to the Modbus port, the dongle uses the same driver without the logger.
From the dongle's firmware and our notes on each inverter, not from the datasheet.
How to connect the dongle
Over your network, without a cable to the inverter. Approx. 15 minutes.
- Connection
- The Solarman logger (port 8899)
- Where
- Deye's own data logger: built into the inverter on the SUN-G CM versions, and otherwise a Wi-Fi stick in the port marked WIFI or WiFi Interface on the underside. It must be connected to your network, as when you use the Solarman app. The GridZeno dongle only needs power and a network.
Before you buy
This one works.
Deye via Solarman is the inverter GridZeno has been tested on. Check that your model is under SUN-G (grid-tied inverters) and Deye hybrid without a Modbus port, and that a battery is fitted if you want the battery controlled by the electricity price. If it still doesn't suit you, you have 100 days' free return.
