Installation · Deye

Install GridZeno on Deye via Solarman.

Deye's grid-tied inverters without a battery, SUN-G, and the hybrids SUN-SG03LP1, SUN-SG05LP1-EU without a suffix and SUN-7.6/8K-SG01LP1 have no port for an external controller, only a port for the energy meter. On the other hand, they all have a data logger from Solarman, built in or as a Wi-Fi stick, which is on your network. The GridZeno dongle talks to the logger over the network on port 8899 with Solarman's protocol (V5), and the logger passes it on to the inverter. No cable goes from the dongle to the inverter.

Applies to
SUN-G (grid-tied inverters) and Deye hybrid without a Modbus port
Connection
Over your network, without a cable to the inverter
Time
About 15 minutes

A hybrid is controlled like a single-phase Deye with the inverter's time-of-use program, through the Solarman logger. GridZeno can only read a SUN-G grid inverter. What GridZeno can do on Deye via Solarman

How the dongle recognises it: The dongle talks to the inverter through the Solarman logger on port 8899 and knows it by holding 0: 0x0200 is a SUN-G grid inverter. A hybrid behind the logger is recognised as its own family.

GridZeno Dongle for Deye via Solarman

01

What you need

GridZeno Dongle
The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
Deye's logger on the network
Built in or as a Wi-Fi stick, and connected to your router, so the system can be seen in the Solarman or Deye Cloud app.
The logger's serial number
On the label on the Wi-Fi stick or on the inverter, and in the app under the system's devices.
Access to your router
To find the logger's IP address.
USB power
A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.
02

The connection

Deye's own data logger: built into the inverter on the SUN-G CM versions, and otherwise a Wi-Fi stick in the port marked WIFI or WiFi Interface on the underside. It must be connected to your network, as when you use the Solarman app. The GridZeno dongle only needs power and a network.

Connection
The Solarman logger (port 8899)
03

Settings

On The Solarman logger

SUN-G: Setup > Comm. Param > Address
Read the address. The dongle must have the same one. From the factory it is 01 on most models and 16 on the small single-phase ones.
Hybrid: Advanced Function > Modbus SN
Read it. The dongle must have the same address.
Settings on the logger
None. It just needs to be on the network.

In GridZeno's Welcome

The inverter is chosen in GridZeno: in Welcome the first time, and later under System, Change inverter. The dongle fetches its setup from there.

Step by step

Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.

  1. 1
    Find the logger's serial number

Open the Solarman or Deye Cloud app, go to your system and the list of devices, and find the data logger. Note down its serial number. It's also on the label on the Wi-Fi stick or on the inverter.

  2. 2
    Find the logger's IP address

Find the logger in your router's list of devices, and give it a fixed IP address so it doesn't change.

  3. 3
    Connect power to the dongle

Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.

  4. 4
Connect the dongle to the network

Via Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, and enter the password. Via cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port. The dongle must be on the same network as Deye's logger.

  5. 5
The GridZeno dongle talks to the logger

No cable goes between them. They meet in your router, and the GridZeno dongle asks the logger on port 8899 with Solarman's protocol. The logger passes it on to the inverter.

  6. 6
    Log in to GridZeno

Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID and then asks about your inverter.

  7. 7
    Choose your inverter in Welcome

Choose your inverter, Deye SUN-G or Hybrid, and the connection Through the Solarman logger (the WiFi stick). Enter the logger's IP address in the field The logger's address on your network and the serial number in the field The logger's serial number, and press Save inverter. The dongle then fetches its setup and reads from the inverter.

The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.

Take care

Don't plug the GridZeno dongle into the inverter's RS485 or Meter port. It belongs to the energy meter, and there the inverter controls the bus itself. The DRM port isn't for the dongle either.
If your Deye hybrid has a port marked Modbus or RS485, use the cable guide for it instead.
Deye doesn't describe the logger's local access in the manuals. Many people use it, but an update of the logger can close it. If the logger doesn't respond, write to us with the logger's serial number and version.
The logger must still be connected to the network. The Solarman or Deye Cloud app keeps working alongside GridZeno.

What GridZeno can control on Deye via Solarman, and how, is on the page about Deye via Solarman. If you're stuck, write to us with the model name.

Ports, pins and menus are from the manufacturer's own manual: Deye SUN-G and SUN-SG User Manuals (EN, 2024-2026) and Solarman's local protocol (V5), The manuals: the RS485 port for the energy meter (chapter 7), Setup > Comm. Param, and the data logger (Wi-Fi stick or built in). Local access on port 8899 isn't in the manuals..
