Installation · Solplanet

Install GridZeno on Solplanet hybrid.

For Solplanet, there's no cable from the GridZeno dongle to the inverter. It talks to Solplanet's Ai-Logger over your network with Modbus TCP on port 9999, which the Ai-Logger uses from the factory. The Ai-Logger is Solplanet's accessory, which is bought separately and connected to the inverter's RS485 port with a cable. The Ai-Dongle or Wi-Fi stick that comes with the inverter is only for Solplanet's app and cloud and can't be used for GridZeno.

Applies to
ASW H-S2, H-T2, H-T3, H-T2/T3-DG, SH and TH with Ai-Logger
Connection
Over your network, without a cable to the inverter
Time
About 15 minutes

Through the Ai-Logger, GridZeno shows the solar production and lowers the inverter's output at negative prices. The battery can only be read and controlled with the dongle connected directly to the inverter. What GridZeno can do on Solplanet hybrid

How the dongle recognises it: The model name in input 1018-1025 starts with ASW or SOL, and the model code 11-16 in 31073 is a hybrid.

What you need

GridZeno Dongle
The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
Ai-Logger with software 003R or newer
Connected to the inverter's Monitor port. The version is shown on the Ai-Logger's own page.
Access to your router
To find the Ai-Logger's IP address.
USB power
A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.
02

The connection

Solplanet's own logger, which is connected to the inverter's RS485 port Monitor (on the TH: Third_485) and to your network. The GridZeno dongle only needs power and network.

Step by step

Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.

  1. 1
    Check the Ai-Logger's port

Open the Ai-Logger's own page, and go to System settings, Communication settings and Network settings. Under Modbus TCP Port, the port must be 9999, which Solplanet states is the default. If it's set to something else, choose User-define Port, enter 9999, press Submit, and wait 10 seconds.

  2. 2
    Find the Ai-Logger's IP address

Find the Ai-Logger in your router's list of devices, and give it a fixed IP address so it doesn't change.

  3. 3
    Connect power to the dongle

Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.

  4. 4
Connect the dongle to the network

Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, and enter the password. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port. The dongle must be on the same network as the Ai-Logger.

  5. 5
The GridZeno dongle talks to the Ai-Logger

There's no cable between them. They meet in your router, and the GridZeno dongle queries the Ai-Logger every few seconds with Modbus TCP on port 9999. The Ai-Logger itself reads the inverter over RS485.

  6. 6
    Log in to GridZeno

Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID and then asks about your inverter.

  7. 7
    Choose your inverter in Welcome

Choose your inverter, Solplanet Hybrid, and the connection Through Solplanet's Ai logger. Enter the Ai logger's IP address in the field The Ai logger's address on your network, and press Save inverter. The dongle then fetches its setup and reads from the inverter.

The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.

Take care

The Ai-Logger only talks to one Modbus TCP device at a time. If you have, for example, Home Assistant connected to it, that connection must be switched off.
Solplanet's protocol can only limit the export, not control the battery.
Don't plug the GridZeno dongle into the inverter's or the Ai-Logger's RS485 ports. The Ai-Logger itself uses the inverter's Monitor port.
This guide requires an Ai-Logger. If you don't have an Ai-Logger, use the guide with RS485 cable for your series. It's next to this one on the Installation page.
According to Solplanet's manual, the ASW H-S2 has no free RS485 port for a logger, only ports for battery, energy meter and DRED. If you have an H-S2, write to us before you buy an Ai-Logger.

What GridZeno can control on Solplanet hybrid, and how, is on the page about Solplanet hybrid. If you're stuck, write to us with the model name.
