Install GridZeno on SolaX X3-HYB G4 PRO.
X3-HYB G4 PRO is SolaX's three-phase hybrid inverter with a battery, an upgrade of X3-Hybrid G4. It has no port called COM. RS485 for an external controller is on pins 4 and 5 in the RS485 port in the COM1 block. Pin 3 carries 12 V, so the cable must be made with only the three wires that are needed.
- Applies to
- X3-HYB-4.0-P to 15.0-P and 10.0K-P
- Connection
- Network cable with RJ45 plug
- Time
- About 30 minutes
The battery is controlled with SolaX' remote control, which stops by itself if the dongle goes silent. What GridZeno can do on SolaX X3-HYB G4 PRO
How the dongle recognises it: The serial number starts with 10K: SolaX' sixth generation, three-phase.
What you need
- GridZeno Dongle
- The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
- Cable
- A network cable that's re-crimped at the inverter end with only three wires.
- RJ45 plug and crimping tool
- For the inverter end.
- Screwdriver
- For the M3 screw on the COM1 connector housing.
- USB power
- A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.
The port
On the underside of the inverter, to the right of the DONGLE port. COM1 is six RJ45 ports in two columns under one shared connector housing: METER/CT, BMS1 and PARALLEL1 on the left, RS485, BMS2 and PARALLEL2 on the right. RS485 is the top one on the right.
- Port
- RS485 in COM1
- Pin 4 A, REMOTE_485A
- Pin 5 B, REMOTE_485B
- Pin 6 GND, GND_COM
- Pin 3 Must not be connected, +12V_COM_EXT
The cable
A network cable where the inverter end is crimped with only three wires: the dongle's A on pin 4, B on pin 5 and GND on pin 6. The rest of the positions in the plug are empty. An ordinary straight cable must never be used here: it would put the dongle's GND on pin 3, which carries power. The cable has to go through the COM1 connector housing before the plug is crimped on.
| Dongle end | Inverter end |
|---|---|
| Dongle pin 4, blue (A) | SolaX pin 4, REMOTE_485A |
| Dongle pin 5, white/blue (B) | SolaX pin 5, REMOTE_485B |
| Dongle pin 3, white/green (GND) | SolaX pin 6, GND_COM |
| The other wires | Cut off and insulated, especially the one on pin 3 |
Settings
On the inverter
- Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings > Peripheral Settings > Modbus
- Read off Baud Rate and Address. The dongle must have the same. From the factory they are 19200 and 1. Advanced Settings requires the installer code.
- Peripheral Settings > Internal485
- Don't touch it. It's for SolaX's own accessories, such as the EV charger, DataHub and Adapter Box.
In GridZeno's Welcome
The inverter is chosen in GridZeno: in Welcome the first time, and later under System, Change inverter. The dongle fetches its setup from there.
- Manufacturer and model
- SolaX, X3-HYB G4 PRO
- Connection
- By cable (RS485)
- RS485 settings
- The same baud rate and address as the inverter, 8N1. If the inverter is set to 19200, set 19200 on the dongle.
Step by step
Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.
- 1Read the baud rate and address
In the display, go to Menu, Settings, Advanced Settings, Peripheral Settings, Modbus. Advanced Settings requires the installer code. Note down Baud Rate and Address: the dongle must have the same.
- 2Remove the COM1 connector housing
Switch the inverter off first: switch it off in the display, switch off the AC breaker, set the DC switch to OFF, and switch off the battery. Take the dust cover off COM1. If there are already cables in it, loosen the M3 screw, and take the connector housing off.
- 3Pass the cable through the connector housing
Loosen the coupling nut, and take out the cable bush. Only take the plug out of the hole you need. Pass the cable through the coupling nut, the bush and the connector housing, in that order.
- 4Crimp the inverter end with three wires
Cut off the plug at the inverter end, and strip 15 mm. Crimp a new plug on with blue (A) on pin 4, white/blue (B) on pin 5 and white/green (GND) on pin 6. The other wires are cut off and insulated.
- 5Plug it into RS485
Press the RJ45 plug into the RS485 port, at the top right in COM1, until it clicks.
- 6Put the connector housing back on
Only tighten once all cables have been passed through. Press the connector housing on, tighten the M3 screw to 0.6 Nm, and tighten the coupling nut so the port is sealed.
- 7Plug the RJ45 end into the dongle
The cable's other end goes into the dongle's RS485 port. Place the dongle somewhere dry and close to the inverter, so the cable doesn't hang from the plug.
- 8Connect power to the dongle
Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.
- 9Connect the dongle to the network
Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, enter the password, and press Save and connect. When it says Connection OK, press Go to GridZeno. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port.
- 10Log in, and choose your inverter
Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID. Then choose your inverter, SolaX X3-HYB G4 PRO, and the connection By cable (RS485). Set the inverter's baud rate and address under RS485 settings. Press Save inverter, and the dongle fetches its setup and reads the inverter.
The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.
Take care
