Install GridZeno on Deye SUN-M via Solarman.
Deye's microinverters, SUN-M G4, have no cable port, only a built-in Wi-Fi logger from Solarman, which is on your network. The GridZeno dongle talks to the logger over the network on port 8899 with Solarman's protocol (V5). No cable goes from the dongle to the microinverter.
- Applies to
- SUN-M30-M225 G4 (microinverters)
- Connection
- Over your network, without a cable to the inverter
- Time
- About 15 minutes
A microinverter without a battery. GridZeno shows the solar production through the Solarman logger but can't control anything on it. What GridZeno can do on Deye SUN-M via Solarman
How the dongle recognises it: Holding 0 is 0x0400, Deye's microinverter. The dongle talks to it through the built-in logger on port 8899.
What you need
- GridZeno Dongle
- The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
- The microinverter on the network
- Connected to your router, so it can be seen in the Solarman or Deye Cloud app.
- The logger's serial number
- It's on the microinverter's rating plate and in the app under the system's devices.
- Access to your router
- To find the microinverter's IP address.
- USB power
- A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.
The connection
Inside the microinverter, connected to your router over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, as when you use the Solarman or Deye Cloud app. The GridZeno dongle only needs power and a network.
- Connection
- The built-in Wi-Fi logger (port 8899)
Settings
On The built-in Wi-Fi logger
- Settings on the microinverter
- None. It just has to be on the network. The Modbus address is 1.
In GridZeno's Welcome
The inverter is chosen in GridZeno: in Welcome the first time, and later under System, Change inverter. The dongle fetches its setup from there.
- Manufacturer and model
- Deye, SUN-M (Solarman)
- Connection
- Through the Solarman logger (the WiFi stick)
- The logger's address on your network
- The microinverter's IP address.
- The logger's serial number
- From the rating plate or the app.
- Port and unit
- 8899 and 1.
Step by step
Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.
- 1Find the logger's serial number
Open the Solarman or Deye Cloud app, go to your system and the list of devices, and find the microinverter's data logger. Note down its serial number. It's also on the microinverter's rating plate.
- 2Find the microinverter's IP address
Find the microinverter in your router's list of devices, and give it a fixed IP address so it doesn't change.
- 3Connect power to the dongle
Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.
- 4Connect the dongle to the network
Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, and enter the password. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port. The dongle must be on the same network as the microinverter.
- 5The GridZeno dongle talks to the microinverter
There's no cable between them. They meet in your router, and the GridZeno dongle queries the microinverter's logger on port 8899 with Solarman's protocol.
- 6Log in to GridZeno
Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID and then asks about your inverter.
- 7Choose your inverter in Welcome
Choose your inverter, Deye SUN-M, and the connection Through the Solarman logger (the WiFi stick). Enter the microinverter's IP address in the field The logger's address on your network and the logger's serial number in the field The logger's serial number, and press Save inverter. The dongle then fetches its setup and reads from the microinverter.
The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.
