Installation · Deye

Install GridZeno on Deye hybrid, three-phase (LP3).

Deye's three-phase hybrid inverters for 48 V batteries, SG04LP3, SG05LP3 and SG06LP3, have an RJ45 port marked Modbus for remote monitoring. Deye has A and B on different pins from Growatt, and uses pins 1 and 2 for other things, so the inverter end is crimped with only the three wires that are needed.

Needs an electrician: the inverter has to be opened
The inverter has to be opened to reach the Modbus port, and behind the cover are also the connections for grid, load, PV and battery. It should be done by a qualified person, e.g. an authorised installer.
Applies to
SUN-5-12K-SG04LP3, SUN-3-20K-SG05LP3 and SUN-3-8K-SG06LP3
Connection
Network cable with RJ45 plug
Time
About 25 minutes

The battery is controlled with Deye's remote control, which stops by itself if the dongle goes silent. On a firmware without remote control, the dongle uses the inverter's time-of-use program and puts your own back afterwards. What GridZeno can do on Deye hybrid, three-phase (LP3)

How the dongle recognises it: Holding 0 is 0x0500: Deye's three-phase hybrid for a low-voltage battery. The dongle doesn't look at the model name, only at that code.

What you need

GridZeno Dongle
The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
Cable
A network cable that's re-crimped at the inverter end with only three wires.
RJ45 plug and crimping tool
For the inverter end.
USB power
A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.

The port

In the connection compartment at the bottom of the inverter, behind the cover, in the row of RJ45 ports together with Parallel A and B, Meter-485 and BMS. The order of the ports differs slightly from model to model, so look for the name Modbus. The cable is passed in through a cable gland in the bottom.

  • Pin 8 B, 485_B
  • Pin 6 GND, GND_485
03

The cable

A network cable where the inverter end is crimped with only three wires: the dongle's A on pin 7, B on pin 8 and GND on pin 6. The rest of the positions in the plug are empty. An ordinary straight cable doesn't work here.

Step by step

Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.

  1. 1
    Read the inverter's Modbus address

In the display, go to Advanced Function, to the page with Parallel, Master/Slave and Modbus SN. Note down Modbus SN. It's the inverter's address, and the dongle must have the same one.

  2. 2
Remove the cover from the connection compartment

Switch off the inverter first: disconnect the battery, AC and PV. Undo the screws in the cover at the bottom of the inverter, and remove the cover. Behind it are the communication ports.

  3. 3
Crimp the inverter end with three wires

Cut off the plug at the inverter end. Crimp a new plug on with blue (A) on pin 7, white/blue (B) on pin 8 and white/green (GND) on pin 6. The other wires are cut off and insulated.

  4. 4
Pass the cable in through a cable gland

Loosen the nut on a free cable gland in the bottom of the connection compartment, and pass the cable up through it. Tighten the nut once the plug is in the port.

  5. 5
Plug the connector into the Modbus port

Press the plug into the port marked Modbus until it clicks. Meter-485 is the energy meter's and BMS the battery's. Screw the cover back on afterwards.

  6. 6
Plug the RJ45 end into the dongle

The cable's other end goes into the dongle's RS485 port. Place the dongle somewhere dry and close to the inverter, so the cable doesn't hang from the plug.

  7. 7
    Connect power to the dongle

Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.

  8. 8
Connect the dongle to the network

Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, enter the password, and press Save and connect. When it says Connection OK, press Go to GridZeno. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port.

  9. 9
Log in, and choose your inverter

Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID. Then choose your inverter, Deye Hybrid, and the connection By cable (RS485). If the inverter's Modbus SN isn't 1, enter the same number as Slave ID under RS485 settings. Press Save inverter, and the dongle fetches its setup and reads the inverter.

The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.

Take care

Use the port marked Modbus. Meter-485 is the energy meter's and BMS the battery's.
Deye itself states that the Modbus port has no function on some hardware versions. If the inverter doesn't respond even though the cable is correct, write to us with the serial number.
If you have a single-phase Deye (LP1) or one with a high-voltage battery (HP3), use the guide for that. SUN-SG03LP1 has no Modbus port and is connected over the network.

What GridZeno can control on Deye hybrid, three-phase (LP3), and how, is on the page about Deye hybrid, three-phase (LP3). If you're stuck, write to us with the model name.
