Install GridZeno on Deye hybrid, single-phase (LP1).
Most of Deye's single-phase hybrid inverters have an RJ45 port marked Modbus for remote monitoring, with the same pins as the three-phase ones. Deye has A and B on different pins from Growatt, and uses pins 1 and 2 for other things, so the inverter end is crimped with only the three wires that are needed.
- Applies to
- SUN-3-6K-SG04LP1, SUN-3.6-10K-SG05LP1 (AM2-P, SM2, SM2-P), SUN-3-12K-SG06LP1 and SUN-12-18K-SG01LP1
- Connection
- Network cable with RJ45 plug
- Time
- About 25 minutes
The battery is controlled with the inverter's time-of-use program. The dongle saves your own program and puts it back afterwards. What GridZeno can do on Deye hybrid, single-phase (LP1)
How the dongle recognises it: Holding 0 is 0x0300. Some 12-18 kW SG01LP1 units report 0x0200 like a grid inverter; the dongle knows them by holding 8 = 8 or by the battery registers 183, 184 and 213 answering like a battery.
What you need
- GridZeno Dongle
- The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
- Cable
- A network cable that's re-crimped at the inverter end with only three wires.
- RJ45 plug and crimping tool
- For the inverter end.
- USB power
- A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.
The port
In the connection compartment at the bottom of the inverter, behind the cover, in the row of RJ45 ports together with Meter, BMS or RS485/CAN and the two parallel ports. The order differs from model to model, so look for the name Modbus. The cable is passed in through a cable gland in the bottom.
- Port
- Modbus
- Pin 7 A, 485_A
- Pin 8 B, 485_B
- Pin 6 GND, GND_485
The cable
A network cable where the inverter end is crimped with only three wires: the dongle's A on pin 7, B on pin 8 and GND on pin 6. The rest of the positions in the plug are empty. An ordinary straight cable doesn't work here.
| Dongle end | Inverter end |
|---|---|
| Dongle pin 4, blue (A) | Deye pin 7, 485_A |
| Dongle pin 5, white/blue (B) | Deye pin 8, 485_B |
| Dongle pin 3, white/green (GND) | Deye pin 6, GND_485 |
| The other wires | Cut off and insulated |
Settings
On the inverter
- Modbus SN (under Advanced Function)
- Read it. The dongle must have the same address.
- Baud Rate
- 9600, as from the factory
In GridZeno's Welcome
The inverter is chosen in GridZeno: in Welcome the first time, and later under System, Change inverter. The dongle fetches its setup from there.
- Manufacturer and model
- Deye, Hybrid
- Connection
- By cable (RS485)
- RS485 settings
- 9600 baud, 8N1, and the address from the inverter's Modbus SN.
Step by step
Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.
- 1Read the inverter's Modbus address
In the display, go to Advanced Function, to the page with Parallel, Master/Slave and Modbus SN. Note down Modbus SN. It's the inverter's address, and the dongle must have the same one.
- 2Remove the cover from the connection compartment
Switch off the inverter first: disconnect the battery, AC and PV. Undo the screws in the cover at the bottom of the inverter, and remove the cover. Behind it are the communication ports.
- 3Crimp the inverter end with three wires
Cut off the plug at the inverter end. Crimp a new plug on with blue (A) on pin 7, white/blue (B) on pin 8 and white/green (GND) on pin 6. The other wires are cut off and insulated.
- 4Pass the cable in through a cable gland
Loosen the nut on a free cable gland in the bottom of the connection compartment, and pass the cable up through it. Tighten the nut once the plug is in the port.
- 5Plug the connector into the Modbus port
Press the plug into the port marked Modbus until it clicks. Meter is the energy meter's, and BMS or RS485/CAN is the battery's. Screw the cover back on afterwards.
- 6Plug the RJ45 end into the dongle
The cable's other end goes into the dongle's RS485 port. Place the dongle somewhere dry and close to the inverter, so the cable doesn't hang from the plug.
- 7Connect power to the dongle
Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.
- 8Connect the dongle to the network
Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, enter the password, and press Save and connect. When it says Connection OK, press Go to GridZeno. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port.
- 9Log in, and choose your inverter
Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID. Then choose your inverter, Deye Hybrid, and the connection By cable (RS485). If the inverter's Modbus SN isn't 1, enter the same number as Slave ID under RS485 settings. Press Save inverter, and the dongle fetches its setup and reads the inverter.
The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.
