The dongle controls the battery with Growatt's VPP protocol.

Charge, hold and sell

A command with the battery's power and a duration. The dongle removes it itself when the block ends, and after a restart.

What it requires

VPP V2.01 in the inverter's firmware. Without it, GridZeno can only read the inverter and limit the sale.

Stop selling at negative prices

The inverter's export limit is set quarter by quarter by the selling price, but only where the installer has turned export limiting on. GridZeno only lowers a limit that's already set and never turns it on or off.

Another controller

If another system already has a VPP command on the inverter, the dongle leaves it alone and doesn't control the inverter.

Manual

When the control is on Manual, the dongle changes nothing on the inverter. It reads, and if GridZeno has changed something, it puts the inverter's own settings back, including your own charge limits.

The type code 5401, MOD 3-15KTL3-HU. The dongle reads it with the MOD TL3-XH map and knows it's a MOD and not a MID because you choose MOD when you set up GridZeno.

What it requires

VPP V2.01 in the inverter's firmware (holding 30099 = 201).

Lowest charge level

Holding 3067, when it answers. It's raised only when the battery's charge level is above the new limit.

How it differs from MID-HU

MOD TL3-HU is the smaller of the two: MOD 3000-15KTL3-HU, 3-15 kW. MID-HU covers MID 29.9K-50K-HU and MID 20-30KTL3-HU-L.

They share the type code 5401. The dongle knows it's on a MOD because you choose MOD when you set up GridZeno.

On MOD TL3-HU the COM panel sits between the USB port and AC, with DRMS, BAT and Meter at the top and Para.out, Dry contact and Para.in at the bottom.

How it differs from its neighbours

• Growatt MID-HU: The MID-HU has the same type code and the same port, Para.out with pins 5 and 1. The difference is the size, and that you choose MID.
• Growatt MOD: The MOD TL3-XH has the type code 5400 and is connected with pins 3 and 4 in a 30-pin COM connector.

For the installer: the registers

What the dongle uses over Modbus, if you want to follow along or troubleshoot. Don't change the registers yourself while control is set to Automatic.

Control

The VPP command in 30407-30410: 30408 is the duration, 30409 the power in per cent, 30410 = 1 when charging. 30100 = 1 turns it on. The dongle writes in the order 30408, 30409, 30410, 30100, 30407 and removes it with 30407 = 0, 30409 = 0, 30410 back and 30100 = 0.

Holding 30099 shows the VPP version: 201 is V2.01.
