Installation · Solplanet

Install GridZeno on Solplanet SH 2-6 kW with RS485 cable.

The ASW SH 2-6 kW is Solplanet's single-phase hybrid. Its RJ45 port Monitor (CN710) is on the board behind the lower front cover, and Solplanet states that pins 7 and 8 are for monitoring from other manufacturers. GND is pin 3. The cable is made with only the three wires that are needed.

Needs an electrician: the inverter has to be opened
The inverter has to be opened to reach the port. This should be done by a qualified person, such as an authorised electrician.

Time
About 30 minutes

The battery is controlled with the inverter's operating mode. The dongle saves your own mode and puts it back afterwards. What GridZeno can do on Solplanet SH 2-6 kW with RS485 cable

How the dongle recognises it: The storage block from input 1600 can be read, so it's a hybrid, and input 1000 says single-phase.

01

What you need

GridZeno Dongle
The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
Cable
A shielded network cable, no more than 8 mm thick, re-crimped at the inverter end with only three wires.
RJ45 plug and crimping tool
For the inverter end.
USB power
A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.
02

The port

On the communication board behind the lower front cover. The cable is led in through the cable gland COM2, or COM1 if the cable is thicker than 6 mm.

03

The cable

A network cable where the inverter end is crimped with only three wires: the dongle's A on pin 7, B on pin 8 and GND on pin 3. The other positions in the connector are empty. An ordinary straight cable doesn't work here.

Modbus address
Solplanet's Modbus protocol uses address 3 from the factory. The manual mentions neither address nor baud rate.

In GridZeno's Welcome

The inverter is chosen in GridZeno: in Welcome the first time, and later under System, Change inverter. The dongle fetches its setup from there.

Step by step

Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.

  1. 1
Turn off, and open the lower front cover

Switch off the AC breaker, and lock it. Set the DC switch to OFF, and lock it. Wait until the LEDs are off. Open the lower front cover so you can see the communication board.

  2. 2
    Pass the cable through COM2

Cut off the connector at the inverter end, and pass the cable through the cable gland COM2. If the cable is between 6 and 8 mm thick, use COM1.

  3. 3
Crimp the inverter end with three wires

Crimp on a new connector with blue (A) on pin 7, white/blue (B) on pin 8 and white/green (GND) on pin 3. The other wires are cut off and insulated.

  4. 4
    Plug the connector into CN710

Press the connector into the Monitor port (CN710) on the board until it clicks. Close the front cover, and tighten the cable gland.

  5. 5
Plug the RJ45 end into the dongle

The cable's other end goes into the dongle's RS485 port. Place the dongle somewhere dry and close to the inverter, so the cable doesn't hang from the plug.

  6. 6
    Connect power to the dongle

Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.

  7. 7
Connect the dongle to the network

Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, enter the password, and press Save and connect. When it says Connection OK, press Go to GridZeno. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port.

  8. 8
Log in, and choose your inverter

Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID. Then choose your inverter, Solplanet SH (RS485), and the connection By cable (RS485). Press Save inverter, and the dongle fetches its setup and reads the inverter.

The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.

Take care

The Ai-Logger uses the same Monitor port. If you have an Ai-Logger, use the guide for the Ai-Logger instead.
CN704 (Ai-Dongle) carries 5 V on pin 1, and CN713 carries 3.3 V on pin 1. Never plug the cable into them, nor into BMS (CN705) or parallel operation (CN708 and CN709).
Solplanet doesn't describe the baud rate in the manual. If the inverter doesn't respond, write to us with the inverter's software version.
The inverter must be opened. This should be done by a qualified person, for example an authorised installer.

What GridZeno can control on Solplanet SH 2-6 kW with RS485 cable, and how, is on the page about Solplanet SH 2-6 kW with RS485 cable. If you're stuck, write to us with the model name.
