Installation · Solplanet

Install GridZeno on Solplanet 45-60K-LT-G3 with RS485 cable.

The ASW45-60K-LT-G3 doesn't have RJ45 for RS485, but two 3-pin screw terminals in COM2, marked A, B and G. Here the GridZeno dongle talks directly to the inverter with Modbus RTU, without an Ai-Logger. The dongle is connected with three wires.

ASW45K, 50K and 60K-LT-G3
Connection

Time
About 30 minutes

A grid inverter without a battery. GridZeno shows the solar production and lowers the inverter's output at negative prices. What GridZeno can do on Solplanet 45-60K-LT-G3 with RS485 cable

How the dongle recognises it: No storage block from input 1600, or the model code 1-5 in 31073: a three-phase grid inverter. The dongle treats it like the other ASW grid inverters.

What you need

GridZeno Dongle
The device ID is on the label, e.g. GZ-A1B2C3.
Cable
GridZeno's Modbus cable with one end cut off, 3 to 5.5 mm thick.
Wire stripper and screwdriver
For the terminals and the AC/COM cover's M4 screws.
USB power
A 5 V USB charger and a cable with USB-C.

The port

Behind the AC/COM cover on the inverter. COM3 and COM4 next to it are RJ45 ports for control by the grid company, not RS485.

Port
COM2 (terminals A, B and G)
Pin 1: A, A, blue wire.
Pin 2: B, B, white/blue wire.
Pin 3: GND, G, white/green wire.
The terminal in COM2, as Solplanet labels it. A and B are RS485, G is ground and shield. The numbers are on the plug.
  • Pin 1 A, A
  • Pin 2 B, B
  • Pin 3 GND, G
03

The cable

A network cable where one end has an RJ45 connector for the dongle and the other end is cut off. At the inverter end, only the three wires from pins 4, 5 and 3 are used.

Modbus address
Solplanet's Modbus protocol uses address 3 from the factory. The manual mentions neither address nor baud rate.

In GridZeno's Welcome

The inverter is chosen in GridZeno: in Welcome the first time, and later under System, Change inverter. The dongle fetches its setup from there.

Step by step

Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.

  1. 1
Turn off, and open the AC/COM cover

Switch off the AC breaker, and lock it. Set the DC switch to OFF, and lock it. Wait until the LEDs are off. Unscrew the AC/COM cover's M4 screws.

  2. 2
Pass the cable through the cable gland

Unscrew the cable gland's nut, take out the seal and the plug, and pass the cut end of the cable through.

  3. 3
    Prepare the cable

Strip 8 mm from the three wires from pin 4 (blue), pin 5 (white/blue) and pin 3 (white/green). Insulate the other wires.

  4. 4
Screw the wires into A, B and G

Blue (A) goes in terminal A, white/blue (B) in terminal B and white/green (GND) in terminal G. If the inverter is the last one on the cable, set the DIP switch for the terminating resistor to ON.

  5. 5
    Close the cover again

Screw the AC/COM cover on with 1.6 Nm, and tighten the cable gland.

  6. 6
Plug the RJ45 end into the dongle

The cable's other end goes into the dongle's RS485 port. Place the dongle somewhere dry and close to the inverter, so the cable doesn't hang from the plug.

  7. 7
    Connect power to the dongle

Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.

  8. 8
Connect the dongle to the network

Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, enter the password, and press Save and connect. When it says Connection OK, press Go to GridZeno. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port.

  9. 9
Log in, and choose your inverter

Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID. Then choose your inverter, Solplanet ASW (RS485), and the connection By cable (RS485). Press Save inverter, and the dongle fetches its setup and reads the inverter.

The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.

Take care

COM3 and COM4 are for control by the grid company and NS protection, not RS485. Never plug the cable into them.
If the inverter uses COM2 for an Ai-logger or other inverters, use the guide for the Ai-logger instead. There can only be one controller on RS485.
Solplanet doesn't state the baud rate in the manual. If the inverter doesn't answer, write to us.
If you aren't used to fitting wires in a terminal connector, let the installer do it.

What GridZeno can control on Solplanet 45-60K-LT-G3 with RS485 cable, and how, is on the page about Solplanet 45-60K-LT-G3 with RS485 cable. If you're stuck, write to us with the model name.
