The port

The round, waterproof COM connector on the underside of the inverter. The same connector is used for the energy meter, current clamp and battery, so there may already be wires in it.

On the inverter

Ex485 Modbus Baudrate 9600 and address 1, as from the factory. Advance requires the installer code.

In GridZeno's Welcome

The inverter is chosen in GridZeno: in Welcome the first time, and later under System, Change inverter. The dongle fetches its setup from there.

Step by step

Each step has a small drawing that shows what to do.

  1. 1
Check the baud rate and address

On the display, go to Menu, Setting, Advance and Comparameters. This requires the installer code. Ex485 Modbus Baudrate must be set to 9600 and the address to 1, as from the factory.

  2. 2
    Unplug the COM connector

Switch off the inverter first: switch it off on the display, switch off the AC breaker, set the DC switch to OFF, and switch off the battery. Wait 5 minutes. Unscrew the COM connector, and pull it out. If there's only a dust cover, use the COM connector from the accessory bag.

  3. 3
Pass the cable through the connector's parts

Pass the cut end of the cable through the nut, the claws, the seal and the connector housing, in that order.

  4. 4
    Prepare the cable

Strip 13 mm of the three wires from pin 4 (blue), pin 5 (white/blue) and pin 3 (white/green), and crimp terminals on. Insulate the other wires.

  5. 5
Put the wires in pins 5, 6 and 26

Blue (A) goes in pin 5, white/blue (B) in pin 6 and white/green (GND) in pin 26, following the numbers on the connector. Push them in until they click. Don't touch wires already in the other pins: they belong to the energy meter, the current clamp and the battery.

  6. 6
Put the COM connector back in

Tighten the nut, plug the connector into COM, and screw it in by hand.

  7. 7
Plug the RJ45 end into the dongle

The cable's other end goes into the dongle's RS485 port. Place the dongle somewhere dry and close to the inverter, so the cable doesn't hang from the plug.

  8. 8
    Connect power to the dongle

Plug the USB-C cable into the dongle and the charger into a socket. The dongle starts by itself. It gets power from the charger, not from the inverter.

  9. 9
Connect the dongle to the network

Over Wi-Fi: the first time, the dongle creates its own Wi-Fi, GridZeno-Setup- followed by the last characters of the device ID. Connect your phone to it, choose your own network, enter the password, and press Save and connect. When it says Connection OK, press Go to GridZeno. Over cable (LAN): plug a network cable from the router into the dongle's network port.

  10. 10
Log in, and choose your inverter

Log in to GridZeno. Welcome pairs the dongle with its device ID. Then choose your inverter, SolaX X1-HYB-LV, and the connection By cable (RS485). Press Save inverter, and the dongle fetches its setup and reads the inverter.

The dongle's own setup is described with screenshots in The user guide, and the pairing in Getting started.

Take care

The COM connector is shared with the energy meter, the current clamp and the battery. Don't move wires already in it.
Pins 7 and 8 are the energy meter's RS485 and pins 17 to 19 the battery's. The dongle goes in 5, 6 and 26.
The Dongle port is for SolaX's own Pocket WiFi. The GridZeno dongle doesn't go in it.
If you aren't used to fitting wires in a terminal connector, let the installer do it.
