The dongle controls the battery with Huawei's forced charge and discharge.

Charge, hold and sell

A time-limited command that runs out by itself on the inverter. A hold is a charge at 0 W.

What it requires

A Huawei LUNA2000 battery. The dongle talks to the inverter through Huawei's Smart Dongle or RS485.

Stop selling at negative prices

The inverter's export limit is set quarter by quarter by the selling price, but only where the installer has turned export limiting on. GridZeno only lowers a limit that's already set and never turns it on or off.

Battery limits

Your lowest and highest state of charge are written to the inverter's own limits.

Manual

When the control is on Manual, the dongle changes nothing on the inverter. It reads, and if GridZeno has changed something, it puts the inverter's own settings back, including your own charge limits.

The model name in 30000 starts with SUN2000 or SUN5000. The battery is in 47000/47089: 2 is LUNA2000, 1 is LG RESU.

The connection

Modbus TCP through the Smart Dongle, unit 1. Unit 0 is the Smart Dongle itself. Straight to the inverter's own network, the port is 6607 on firmware from December 2021, before that 502.

State of charge limits

47081 is the stop charge level (90-100 %) and 47082 the discharge limit (0-20 % with LUNA2000, 12-20 % with LG).

LG RESU

Controlled only on the SUN2000L V100R001. On newer inverters an LG battery is only read.

What the dongle allows for

• The Smart Dongle takes only one client at a time, so the dongle keeps the connection open.
• If the inverter answers 0x80, "no permission", Modbus TCP must be set to Enable (Unrestricted) in FusionSolar. The dongle writes it in the log and tries again.
• If the system is controlled by an EMMA or by FusionSolar, the dongle writes neither export limit nor charge level.
• Some firmware versions refuse to have 47100 written again. The dongle learns this and stops the command first.

How it differs from its neighbours

• Huawei SUN2000 8-23KTL: The older 8-23KTL without a battery use the same registers over RS485, without a Smart Dongle.

What the dongle uses over Modbus, if you want to follow along or troubleshoot. Don't change the registers yourself while control is set to Automatic.

Control

Forcible charge and discharge in time mode: 47246 = 0, the power in 47247-47250, the minutes in 47083, and 47100 = 1 (charge), 2 (discharge) or 0. Renewed every 10 minutes and expires by itself.

Export limit

47415 is the installer's mode and is never written. Mode 7: the limit in 47418 in per mille. Mode 6: in 47416-47417 in W.

Where

Huawei's Smart Dongle SDongleA-05 in the inverter's dongle port, marked 4G/FE or WLAN-FE. It must be on your network with Wi-Fi or a network cable. If you have several Huawei inverters daisy-chained, the Smart Dongle and the energy meter are on the first one. The GridZeno dongle only needs power and network.
