Growatt MID TL3-X2 with GridZeno.
A grid inverter without a battery. GridZeno shows solar, consumption and grid and lowers the inverter's export limit at negative prices. Applies to MID 17-25KTL3-X1, 30-40KTL3-X, 10-20KTL3-XL(1), 6-12KTL3-XL2, 15-25KTL3-XL2 and 17-50KTL3-X2.

How the inverter is controlled
A grid inverter without a battery: GridZeno reads it and lowers the export limit at negative prices.
- Battery
- None. The inverter is a grid inverter without a battery, so there's nothing to charge or sell from.
- Stop selling at negative prices
- The inverter's export limit is set quarter by quarter by the selling price, but only where the installer has turned export limiting on. GridZeno only lowers a limit that's already set and never turns it on or off.
- What it requires
- VPP V2.01 in the inverter's firmware. Without it, the sale can't be limited.
- Grid and consumption
- Requires an energy meter at the grid connection that the inverter reads.
- Manual
- When the control is on Manual, the dongle changes nothing on the inverter. It reads, and if GridZeno has changed something, it puts the inverter's own settings back, including your own charge limits.
What is special about the Growatt MID TL3-X2
The dongle reads it as a MID TL3-X: the type code 5001. The XL and XL2 models aren't in the type table and are recognised by the registers that answer.
- Export limit
- Only through the VPP protocol: 30201, when the installer has set 30200 = 1. It needs VPP V2.01.
How it differs from its neighbours
- Growatt MID 10-25KTL3-X: The MID 10-25KTL3-X is read and limited the same way, but is connected in a different COM connector.
- Growatt MID TL3-XH: The MID TL3-XH has a battery and the type code 5400.
From the dongle's firmware and our notes on each inverter, not from the datasheet.
How to connect the dongle
Wires in the inverter's terminal plug. Approx. 30 minutes.
- Port
- COM (16-pin connector)
- Pin
- A at pin 3 (RS485A1), B at pin 4 (RS485B1)
- Where
- The round connector marked COM on the underside just below the USB port, between the PV inputs and AC. The same connector is used for the energy meter and DRM, so there may already be wires in it.
Before you buy
This one works.
Growatt MID TL3-X2 is the inverter GridZeno has been tested on. Check that your model is under MID 17-25KTL3-X1, 30-40KTL3-X, 10-20KTL3-XL(1), 6-12KTL3-XL2, 15-25KTL3-XL2 and 17-50KTL3-X2. If it still doesn't suit you, you have 100 days' free return.
